What is Root Canal Treatment?
Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is a painless procedure to restore and save badly damaged or infected teeth. The tooth nerve and pulp are removed by an endodontist during the first stage of the treatment.
The interior is cleaned afterwards to stop new infections from penetrating, post which medication is added and sealed. A crown needs to be fixed following the procedure as a root canal weakens the tooth.

Root Canal Treatment Procedure Steps
01
Drilling and opening
By administering local anaesthesia and setting up a dental dam to isolate the tooth, the dentist prepares the area. After that, they drill into the tooth to gain access to the pulp chamber and root canals.
02
Shaping and filling
The pulp and root of the tooth are removed and the interior is cleansed. Medication is used to stop the bacterial infection and the tooth is prepared for the filling. The tooth is cleaned once more after shaping.
03
Finishing the root canal
This is the second surgical procedure done to expose the implant head and provide an attachment for the final prosthesis which may be a crown, bridge or a denture.
04
Adding a crown
A crown may be required if the tooth was severely damaged to strengthen and stabilise the weak tooth.
